Vitamin C Listed Among the Ranks of AGE Fighters
A recent study published through GreenMedInfo revealed the newest contender in the fight against AGEs—vitamin C.
The study monitored 46 subjects in their early-20s over an 8 week period, during which they were given a high dose of vitamin C daily.
The conclusion of the study states:
The daily consumption of a high dose of vitamin C for 8 weeks resulted in enhanced anti-senescence and anti-atherosclerotic effects via an improvement of lipoprotein parameters and microRNA expression through anti-oxidation and anti-glycation, especially in smokers.
Getting Your Vitamin C
While citrus fruits are an excellent source of vitamin C, they are incorrectly labeled as the best way to get your daily dosage. Bell peppers happen to be the true holder of that title. In fact, one cup of chopped raw red bell pepper packs almost 100 mg more vitamin C than a cup of orange juice! Other excellent sources of vitamin C include:
- Greens such as broccoli and brussel sprouts
- Tropical fruits including kiwi, papaya and pineapple
- (And of course!) Citrus fruits—oranges, tangerines and grapefruits are best
